FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How do online lessons work?
Lessons are live and one-on-one through Zoom. Each student attends a weekly lesson at a scheduled time and receives guidance and assignments to work on between lessons.
What equipment do I need?
You’ll need a device with a camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, and access to a piano or keyboard (minimum five octaves recommended).
Are online lessons effective?
Yes. Live online lessons allow for real-time feedback, demonstration, and interaction, providing the same level of individual instruction as in-person study.
Do you teach adults?
Yes. Many of my students are adult beginners or returning to piano after time away. Adult students study privately through my online studio.
Do you teach children?
Yes. Children’s lessons are taught by me through the Outschool platform, which provides scheduling, classroom access, and communication tools for families.
What age is appropriate to begin?
Most children begin piano lessons around age seven, although readiness can vary.
Do I need to prepare for Royal Conservatory (RCM) exams?
No. Many students study for personal enjoyment. For families interested in pursuing The Royal Conservatory of Music Certificate Program (RCM), please contact me through my RCM teacher profile to discuss private study options.
How long are lessons?
Lesson lengths of 30, 45, or 60 minutes are available, depending on the student’s needs and availability.
How much practice is expected?
Regular practice is important for progress. Most students benefit from practicing at least three times per week, with practice time increasing as levels advance.
What materials will I need?
Students are responsible for purchasing their music and method books as needed. Most materials are available online or through local music stores.
What if I need to cancel a lesson?
Please refer to the Studio Policies page for full details regarding cancellations and make-up lessons.
Do you offer a trial lesson?
Yes. Adult students are welcome to book a free trial lesson to determine if the format is a good fit.
