About Me & My Studio

Personal Greeting

Hello, I’m Trevor.

I’m a piano and theory teacher certified by The Royal Conservatory of Music, and for over 25 years I’ve been helping students build skills, confidence, and a genuine enjoyment of music.

I work with children, teens, and adults at all levels. Some students choose to prepare for Royal Conservatory exams, while others simply want to play the music they love. Lessons are always live and one-on-one, taught online through Zoom using multiple cameras, screen sharing, and real-time guidance. I’m able to observe technique closely and provide immediate feedback, just as I would in person.

Every lesson is tailored to the individual, with a focus on strong fundamentals, steady progress, and an enjoyable learning experience.

Teaching Experience

Teaching has been my full-time profession for more than 25 years, and I currently work with students in over seven countries including Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, and maintain a full teaching roster.

Many of my students study with me for years, often beginning in elementary school and continuing with me through high school and into university. While some students work toward Royal Conservatory exams, others study for personal enjoyment, skill development, or to return to music later in life. I adapt my teaching to support different learning styles and needs, including students with ADHD, Tourette’s Syndrome, and other learning differences.

Education and Training

My background includes studies with:

  • The Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto)

  • Alberta College Conservatory of Music (Edmonton)

  • Grant MacEwan University

  • Berklee College of Music (Online Extension School)

Musical and Teaching Background

Earlier in my career, I served for more than five years as choir director and organist at King of Kings Lutheran Church in St. Albert, Alberta.

Over the years, I’ve helped students publish original music, record their own projects, and create arrangements for school ensembles when materials weren’t available. Teaching has always been the centre of my professional life—and the part I enjoy most.

Professional Memberships

I’m a member of several national and international music organizations, including:

  • Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS)

  • Canadian League of Composers

  • SOCAN

  • Society for Education and Music Psychology Research

I’ve also had the honour of serving as a JUNO Awards judge in multiple years, most recently in 2024.

My Teaching Philosophy

My approach is simple: music education should be structured, supportive, and personal.

Some students are working toward exams. Others are learning purely for enjoyment. Either way, my goal is to help each student grow in skill and confidence while keeping the experience positive and motivating.

It’s not about perfection. It’s about steady progress, enjoyment, and building a lifelong connection with music.
